The Challenge
The owner of a 250m² villa built in the 2000s was facing two major problems: very high electricity bills, primarily due to intensive air conditioning use, and a lack of modern comfort. The challenge was to significantly reduce energy consumption and integrate "Smart Home" features without undertaking heavy and costly renovation work.
The Domo-Smart Solution
Our intervention was carried out in three phases, as a Project Management Assistant (AMO):
Energy and Home Automation Audit: We analyzed electricity bills, identified the most energy-intensive items (air conditioners, water heaters, lighting) and defined with the family their lifestyle scenarios and their expectations regarding comfort and security.
Technical Solution Design: We recommended a solution based on the Zigbee wireless protocol for its reliability and low cost, centered around a central home automation hub. The action plan included:
- Replacing the thermostats of 5 air conditioners with connected thermostats allowing fine programming and remote control.
- Installing connected outlets on water heaters to activate them only during off-peak hours or on demand.
- Replacing main light bulbs with connected LEDs to create lighting atmospheres and automate shutdown.
- Adding opening sensors on doors and windows to automatically cut off air conditioning if a window remains open too long.
Installation Supervision: We selected a partner electrician, trained them on the specific equipment, and supervised the complete installation and configuration of the system, including the creation of personalized scenarios on the client's mobile application ("I'm leaving home", "Night Mode", etc.).
The Results
- -28% reduction in average monthly electricity bill after 6 months of use
- Return on Investment (ROI) on equipment and consulting services estimated at less than 3 years.
- Spectacular improvement in comfort thanks to remote control and automated scenarios.
- Controlled budget by using wireless technology avoiding the need to run new cables.
